I run a local non-profit rabbit rescue for dumped, neglected and abused rabbits in the Tri-cities Washington and surrounding areas. My goal is to keep domestic rabbits off of the streets, get them to the shelter, get them fixed and any other medical attention they need. Rabbits are the 3rd most dumped house pet in the US and the UK. I am so far the only one in the Tri-cities area who deals with this. Most of my rescues are dumped - so I go out with x pens, cat traps and fishing net and spend however long it takes rescuing them and getting them to saftey.
I have had great support from my community via donations. I was able to have a 12x18 shelter built with all new bunny condos. My donations are generally via PayPal that go directly to the bunny's personal savings account. I have also received donations in the form of supplies delivered to my home, checks in the mail as well as money put directly onto my veterinary account. So far most of the money has been out of pocket for meand I am hoping that getting my 501c3 will help change that. My Tri Cities Washington Rabbit Advocates facebook page has helped a great deal in raising awareness and getting donations to help support the rescue.
